Dr. Djamba Yanyi K. Djamba , Ph.D. | Director ydjamba@aum.edu

Dr. Djamba holds master’s and doctorate degrees in Sociology from Louisiana State University. He also earned two bachelor degrees in Demography and Engineering, as well as several certificates in Population Policy Communications, Leadership and Change, Community Studies, SPSS, and Excellence in Teaching with Technology.

Dr. Djamba was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Population Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin. He also worked as a Research Associate at the Population Studies and Training Center at Brown University where he played a key role managing a four country research project on “Interrelations among Migration, Economic Change, Women’s Status, Reproduction, and Health.” Dr. Djamba has taught at Tuffs University in Massachusetts, Rhode Island College, and Southeastern Louisiana University where he spent the last 7 years. 

He has an extensive record of publications with one edited book on sexual behavior of adolescents, many articles in peer reviewed journals, a large number of monographs and newspaper columns on population topics, and he has made nearly 50 presentations at professional meetings. He is an active member in more than 10 professional associations including American Sociological Association, Population Association of America, International Sociological Association, and International Union for the Scientific Study of Population.  Dr. Djamba has received several research grants from different sources including the World Health Organization, Population Council, Population Reference Bureau, American Sociological Association, and World Vision. His current research focuses on sexual practices, marriage, HIV/AIDS risks, domestic violence, and migration in comparative contexts.

Dr. Djamba is fluent in French and has published articles in French and he speaks several other languages. He has been to more than 15 countries in all continents. He enjoys bike riding, swimming, traveling, camping, and watching basketball and soccer. He also loves working with children and has been a KIDS HOPE USA volunteer for 3 years tutoring one child at a local elementary school for one hour per week.

Amy Hinton, MPA  |  Senior Consultant

 As a Senior Consultant, Amy Hinton provides  services in the areas of grant writing, program evaluation, and research design.  Ms. Hinton also specializes in policy research and analysis and project management in the areas of health and human services, with specific expertise in mental health and disability policy. 
 
Prior to joining the Center for Demographic Research and the Center for Government, Ms. Hinton worked as an independent public affairs and policy consultant for her company, Pinnacle Consulting.   Ms. Hinton began her professional career as the public relations officer at the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.  She later served as press aide and disability policy advisor to Gov. Don Siegelman and was a contract policy analyst in the Alabama Senate.  Ms. Hinton has also provided health and mental health policy consulting services to local, statewide and national political candidates.  In 2007, Ms. Hinton served as the statewide project coordinator for the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program strategic planning grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.  She is currently serving as project coordinator for Montgomery County, where she is helping develop Alabama’s first juvenile mental heath and drug court.
 
Ms. Hinton is a former rural mental health and substance abuse treatment provider and also has experience in business development and marketing for several private health care management companies.  She has worked with many nonprofit organizations in Alabama including the Girl Scouts of Alabama, the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers and the Alabama Disability Advocacy Program.  She has served on the Alabama Child Death Review Team, the Children’s Justice Task Force and on the state DHR Quality Assurance Committee.
 

Ms. Hinton earned her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Auburn University Montgomery and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from Huntingdon College.  She also holds post-baccalaureate certifications in both Nonprofit Management and Administration and in Health Policy and Administration from Auburn University Montgomery.  Ms. Hinton is a candidate for the Ph.D. in Public Policy at Auburn University.  
 

  Christina L. Robinson

Christina Robinson is the Program Associate for the Center for Demographic Research. She holds an Associate degree in Science from Central Alabama Community College and a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Auburn University Montgomery. She was a student worker at AUM’s Enrollment Services in 2006 and a surveyor for the Martin Dam project with Kleinschmidt Associates in 2007.

Christina’s responsibilities at the center include responding to data inquires form the public, searching, maintaining, and compiling demographic information. She is also involved with the center’s publications as well as contract and grant procurements.
